What do you need besides proof of funds?
1. Weak financials
Weak documentation of the proof of funds is the most common reason why applicants get refusal. To avoid this problem, you must show that you have sufficient funds back in Nepal to support your stay in Canada. If you decide to go for an educational loan, the loan amount must be sufficient to cover your entire tuition fees plus living expenses. Similar is the case for the bank balance. Plus, provide supporting documents for every document you prepare. You can find details on proof of funds here Proof of Financial Documents.
2. Weak ties back home
You must explain your familial ties back in your home country to convince them that you will return at any cost. If they are not convinced that you have strong familial ties to return to, there’s a high chance that your application will be refused. Show that you have parents to take care of. Or, you have enough property to offer you a sophisticated life in your home country. You can also explain that you have an excellent career prospect in your home country. In any way, convince them that you will return.
3. Low IELTs score
A low score in IELTS/PTE justifies that your language ability is not competitive enough. Thus, there’s a chance of getting your application rejected on premise that you do not meet language requirements. The desired score for Canada is at least 6 on each band for IELTS. If you fail to score a minimum of 6 on any band, it’s better to give the exam again rather than going through refusal and reapplication.
4. The college you chose is not a DLI
For an applicant to get a valid study permit, the study institute he/she chose must be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). Do proper research about your college to find out that it is a DLI in Canada before you proceed with an offer letter.
5. Your subject doesn’t match your previous study area and employment history
If you have chosen a different subject than the one you studied in the past, you must explain the reason for doing so in your SOP. Bear in mind that if your explanation feels insufficient, your application will be rejected. If you want to be on the safe side, choose a course that matches your educational background and employment history.
I’ve covered major reasons for the rejection of Canadian study permit applications. If you have other reasons, you can add them to the list.
