Visiting Dhorpatan? Here are the Itineraries and What you Shouldn’t Miss!

Dhorpatan Hunting reserve is the only hunting reserve of Nepal that lies in a village of Baglung district. The place is famous for trekking as well as for hunting. The ideal time to visit this place is March to May and September to November. During that time, visitors can enjoy the breathtaking sight of wildflowers blooming all over the place. The place provides you voyage through heaven and beyond. Reaching this place is not difficult though. Roadways have been built and various means of transportation are available to ease your travel. I have briefly covered itineraries for visiting this place below.

Day 1: Travel from Pokhara to Burtibang

You can easily get a public vehicle from Baglung bus park, Pokhara. The distance from Pokhara to Burtibang is approximately 158 Km. Plus, the approximate time required to reach the place from Pokhara is 7 hours. Most of the road from Pokhara to Burtibang is pitch. However, after passing Baglung Bazaar, you will have to travel a few kilometers off-road. The route after Galkot is breathtaking, with a serenely flowing Badigad river accompanying your journey to Burtibang. There are numerous decent hotels in the area where you may call it a day.

Day 2: Burtibang to Dhorpatan

You can find a jeep from the jeep stand in Burtibang to take you to Dhorpatan. Even if you have brought your vehicle, I recommend taking a jeep (NRs. 700 per person) from there unless you are prepared for some major difficulties. The road ahead is completely off-road and quite challenging. In addition, going in a jeep allows you to fully enjoy the ambiance and serenity of the way ahead. If the jeep drivers are friendly, they will allow you to take pictures of the scenery along the trip. The road from Burtibang to Dhorpatan is approximately 30 kilometers long, with a maximum travel time of three hours.

Day 3 and Day 4: Dhorpatan

Once you enter the hunting reserve, you will have no trouble finding a hotel or a homestay. I shouldn’t forget to mention that entering the area will cost you NRs. 100. There are so many locations to visit and activities to do once you arrive. I recommend that you spend at least two days exploring the area. You may appreciate the beauty of the mountains by going on a hike to the nearby hills. You can become immersed in the serenity of the Uttar Ganga. If you stay at a homestay, the hosts will accompany you on tours and recommend things you shouldn’t miss while you’re there. The people who live there are quite helpful and nice.

On the fifth morning, you can catch a jeep from Dhorpatan to Burtibang. I suggest you catch a bus from Burtibang to Galkot to spend the day there. On the next day, you can easily get back from Galkot to Pokhara.
